Double the FUN!
Durban’s incredible reputation of enjoying such a strong culture of doubles surfski paddling certainly rang true at Race 5 finale of the Bay Union Surfski Series on Sunday with a great field of excited paddlers turning up, eager to take on the doubles format.

The weather man played ball with some great conditions for the 7 and 15km short and long course race, which included a lap of the reef to challenge the paddlers a little more.

The racing up front was fierce, with Matthew Bouman using the power of his partner, flat water sprint star Louis Hattingh, to hit the front early on. Hank McGregor and Lee Furby were the only boat to hang on to the wave, setting up a nail biting finish. It came down to the last wave of the day with Hank and Lee getting the upper hand in the surf and taking the win.

The depth of the field was extremely strong with youngsters Gene Prato and Bailey de Fondaumiere finishing third and the mixed double duo of Jenna Ward and Luke Nisbet claiming a very strong fourth.
